UV DTF on Metal, Wood & Powder-Coated Surfaces

Beyond drinkware, UV DTF opens up an entire world of hard substrates: bare and powder-coated metal, raw and finished wood, and hard plastic. For sign shops, award makers and promo companies, that's a huge range of new product.

Here's how UV DTF performs on these surfaces and how to prep them.

Metal and powder-coat

UV DTF bonds permanently to bare metal, anodized aluminum, stainless and powder-coated finishes — ideal for water bottles, nameplates, tool cases, signage and industrial promo goods.

Powder-coated surfaces are especially friendly: smooth and clean, they take the adhesive well. Clean with alcohol first regardless of metal type.

Wood and finished surfaces

Smooth, sealed or finished wood (coasters, signs, boxes, crates) takes UV DTF cleanly. Raw, porous or very rough wood is less ideal — the adhesive needs a relatively smooth surface to grip.

For rougher wood, a sealed/finished area or a smooth coated patch gives the best bond.

Surface rule: Hard + smooth + clean = great bond. The smoother and cleaner the substrate, the stronger and longer-lasting the transfer.

Durability on hard goods

On low-wash items like signage, awards and hardware, UV DTF is extremely durable — often lasting years — because it isn't subjected to repeated washing. See how long UV DTF lasts.

This makes it a natural fit for sign shops and promo companies.

Frequently asked questions

Does UV DTF stick to powder-coated metal?

Yes — powder-coated surfaces are smooth and clean, making them an excellent substrate for UV DTF. Clean with alcohol before applying for the strongest bond.

Can UV DTF be applied to wood?

Yes, on smooth, sealed or finished wood. Raw, porous or rough wood bonds poorly — the adhesive needs a relatively smooth surface.
